BREAKCORE GIVES ME WOOD

TEMPORARILY SOLD OUT
... this is where the mayhem started. crawling outta the squats of Gent what once started out as a benefit for a dedicated server, has now turned into a true soundclash of modern avant-garde. witnes the artists who contributed to the first 4 editions of Wood. this cd dances between noize, dance, ragga, jungle, mash up and ofcourse breakcore.
HOLD THE WEST / BARNDANCE 7"

Hold the west in hand was Droon's first anthem, and has more then proven it's worth on dancing and laughing muscles. It starts off with one of the heaviest basslines in history, then it tries to throw in the break that can handle the bassline but suddenly unfolds into a very unlikely clash of chaotic breakbeat mayhem and a sixties movie theme perfectly cut out for the job. A little side comment, Droon never saw the movie he sampled from untill maybe a year after the track was made. That's internet for you. Barndance is much better kept secret then "hold the west", it's only contact with reality has been Droon's liveset, where it fires up the room every time, and, not in the least, it is the most ever requested song in Jason Forrest(donna summer)'s radioshow, advanced D&D, on new jersey's WFMU. It combines some of the ruffest drum and bass ever heard with a barndance recording made in the beginning of the previous century in the American west, proving that dance music is of all times.
CARDOPUSHER "I NEED SOMEONE I CAN IMITATE" 12"

Does he really need someone he can imitate? Don't we all need someone we can imitate? Or is it more important to be original and set our own standards instead of imitating what others do?! Well, in this case Cardopusher dares us to be original! Cardopusher want you to realise that imitating someone is just not cool. And Cardopusher makes it certain on this release that he isn't just a one-day fruit-fly, out there to imitate others. Instead he brings us his best work so far on Belgium's very own Wood Records.

Born and raised in the city of Caracas, Venuzuela - featured on the cover art is a photograph of the Caracas skyline - this South-American breakcore and dubstep producer definatly plants his flag in the twisted world of breaks, beats and synthlines. Throwing in the samples and vocals here'n'there, thusfar, this is his most rave-sounding release he did.

This EP is a great follow up to his Peace Off debut album from last year, which now shows a more mature and polished sound that also features 2 fantastic collaborations with Retrigger and Sickboy. Perfect to blend and mix into your ever growing breakcore collection!

SICKBOY "MUSICAL THERAPY" LP

Lowlands and Wood Records are proud to present the long-awaited third album by Belgium's breakcore artist Sickboy Milkplus. With a unique and fresh sound, this 8 track album doesn't fail to surpirise you with its efforts to combine fun and raw breaks. Some say this isn't the usual Sickboy we can expect - others say you can expect anything from Sickboy - but what he did on this album is taken all his musical influences and simply made a difference that leaves you feeling of warmth and bass.

It sounds like a very personal album. Remarkably are the countless synthesised landscape feel atmospheres that overule the overall sample based work of Sickboy. If one thing stands out on the album is its wicked programmation, variation and innovation. It almost doesn't sound like laptop music anymore and yet this album truely sounds like a breakcore record that you've never heared before.

The grand opening of  "The Return Of The Tigermask", the killer basslines and shouts from "Heyo-Rhythm", the stompin kickchant of 'Noboby Ever Push Me Around' during "The Drifter", the void and desert-like sound of "Quicksand", the questions and hoovering basslines during  "The Riddler", the vocals from Evi Hanssen and Mauro Pawlowski in this epic and final remake of  "Meet Me On The Moon", The organs and unforgetable strings during "Moodswinger", and finally, the bassiest beast gets unleashed by the end and goes out like "Metropole Hysteria".
